Frequently Asked Questions

How do you pick your destinations?

Part of the process is a bit random: where do I feel like going? What country or city have I heard about that makes it worth exploring? Part of it is also based on my quest to visit all the countries of the world in the next twenty years. As of February 2026, I have visited 76.

Do you use ChatGPT or any AI at all to write your posts?

I do not use AI to write my articles. Many travel search results today lead to generic “top 10” lists that feel algorithmically produced. My diary entries are based on my own travels and experiences, and are written entirely by me.

I may occasionally use AI as an editorial tool for grammar, clarity and proofreading (English isn’t my first language, so I sometimes miss typos). The research, reporting, and writing are entirely my own.

Do you only visit off-the-beaten-path destinations?

It really depends on what one considers off the beaten path. I have written about the Iguazú Falls that border Argentina and Brazil, and while this is quite a big destination for locals, it is by no means a typical stop for North American or European tourists, given the cost and distance of getting there. As such, it felt like a place I could write about.

On that same trip, I visited Buenos Aires, but didn’t feel like this was a place I could feature on the blog. It is the number one destination for foreigners in Argentina, and there are plenty of other resources available to find out about this wonderful city.

I have focused a lot on Mexico recently, and I have been to some of the country’s most famous hotspots - yet I would much rather talk about Playa Agua Blanca, an incredible, virtually unknown beach on the Mexican Pacific coast, than Cancún.

Do you make money off your blog?

I write primarily because I enjoy documenting my travels and sharing places that mattered to me. The blog is, first and foremost, a personal travel diary.
